To use a cliche, it’s full of surprises, so please forgive me. Just 45 minutes will get you to Downtown Phoenix and the Sky Harbor International Airport from our massive suburban metropolis northwest of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Visitors and locals appreciate Surprise’s unique blend of quaint charm and big-city conveniences. Our intergenerational city hosts various events and activities, from local celebrations to regional festivals, art exhibits, and cultural adventures.
The city of Surprise, Arizona, features the most prominent tennis and racquet complex in the southwestern United States, as well as several golf courses, a lake for urban fishing, and aquatic centers. Cactus League Spring Training brings in a massive influx of people every year, especially from the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers. Surprise Stadium, named USA Today’s Best Spring Training Stadium in Arizona for 2018 (see Note), provides baseball fans with an unforgettable experience at the ballpark, along with autograph opportunities with their favorite major league players. During the Major League Baseball season, the stadium hosts various events, including minor league teams, national high school and college baseball tournaments, USA Professional Baseball teams, and more.
The magnificent Sonoran Desert and Lake Pleasant Regional Park lie north of Surprise, while the massive White Tank Mountain range forms the city’s western boundary. Hiking, fishing, and camping are all within a 20-minute drive of Surprise, making it a desirable destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Our proximity to the Phoenix Metropolitan area means that locals and visitors alike may enjoy what a thriving city offers the most, from world-class entertainment to exciting outdoor activities. Plus, day trips and weekend vacations are possible due to Surprise’s closeness to other popular travel destinations, such as the picturesque cities of Sedona, Prescott, and Flagstaff, the always-open city of Las Vegas, Nevada, and the beaches and mega-metropolises in California.
Despite Surprise being a bustling and expanding city with close to 150,000 residents, we continue to uphold our core values of maintaining a clean, secure, and welcoming community.
Our Spring Training takes place in Surprise Stadium, which is part of the award-winning Surprise Recreation Campus, which also accommodates a range of festivals, special events, and activities related to leisure, arts, culture, and sports.
The Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex is located just across the street from the stadium. It is widely regarded as one of the finest municipal tennis facilities in the United States. In addition to its 25 tennis courts, the facility also features indoor racquetball and outdoor pickleball courts.
Visitors who have been here before keep coming back to enjoy our aquatics center and five-acre urban fishing lake.
In addition, Surprise is the proud location of Ottawa University, which provides an amazing educational experience in addition to more than 20 collegiate athletic teams. Go Spirit!
The White Tank Mountains provide excellent mountain riding and hiking opportunities and are located nearby. The trails in this park in the Sonoran Desert range from easy to strenuous, and spending the night beneath the starry Arizona sky camping is a terrific opportunity to take advantage of the fact that this park is the biggest county-owned park in the United States. The close-by Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium is another famous visit throughout the entire year.
Naturally, you will become more hungry due to all of this exercise. The good news is that our city is home to some genuinely fantastic dining options. You may find the perfect taste in Surprise, whether you’re looking for burgers and craft beer or wine and distinctive cuisine. Surprise has it all.
We adore Surprise because of its great community amenities, retail and entertainment alternatives, lovely climate, and relaxed Southwestern way of life. We are confident that you will feel the same way.
